Self Reflection!

Published by xxsoccerxx under Uncategorized

I think that blogging really helped us with our writing skills. It got us to push our boundaries of our minds further and further. Usually, people’s writing style can change for the better if they write about something that they are passionate about and not something that they are forced into; passion and emotion can bring in thoughts and opinions that can be used to support you topic, thus, creating voice. Also, blogging helps us become more preserved, and self aware, because we are posting information on the Internet. We have to be cautious about what we post because it will always be out there for the world to see, and you have to be careful and make smart decisions of how you phrase your opinions.

During writing my blogging experience I have grown as a writer, and I’m not just saying it, I have noticed it through myself. I have become more creative in the methods that I use to support and express a topic. For example the Can You Hear Me blog post, I found a way to connect to totally unrelated subjects together, and creating my own meaning for the cocktail mix! I also now became more familuar with blogging settings and tought myself how to upload videos and pictures before ms. Rumford taught us. I learned many new qualities about myself; I am quite curious so when I look to go from sites and blogs discover everyone’s ideas and opinions. Sometimes that’s how I come up with my ideas and topics, an inspiration! I also learned that I am very impatient, especially when it comes to waiting for technology to load or upload something. I also learned that I can get distracted while writing a report very easily but when I am working on a blog, it takes a really annoying person to distract me! Another unique lesson that I learned about myself was that I tend to have a greater interest and research more about something that I find fascinating or something that I like, I want to feed my brain with more knowledge and the facts that I come across will always imprint in my mind because it is something that I want to and would like to remember.

Learning all these new methods can help with my writing in the future; Blogging can become my brainstorm notebook, I can create more blogs and it can help me gather thoughts idea and information for whatever reports I need to write in the future. Blogging can also help me with adding more voice into my writing with emotion and opinions to back me up, and also research will always be a good source to start a foundation with and continue to elaborate on!

I am thankful for the blogs that we have done in the past weeks for it has helped me discover my inner writer!

Wrong Paths

Published by xxsoccerxx under Uncategorized

Fame, fortune, success! Diego Maradona, a former Argentina soccer player, had it all! He had scratched history with his amazing achievements like captaining the Argentinean team and leading them to victory in the world cup, winning the Golden ball for the tournaments best player, scoring 34 goals and earning 91 caps. His most famous and notorious goal, was called the “ Hand of God”, and another goal that escalated his fame was none other than “ The goal of the Century”, a kick that intertwine between six players and straight into the goal.

It seems that Maradona was made for this sport, he had a small strong body that was fit to speedily run short distanced sprints. Maradona can win a whole game by himself, he can pass and weave through all the opponents. That is how good he is, or was.

Yes, this soccer player was very will known, but, unfortunately, not for his awing soccer fever, but for being controversial. In 1991, he was suspended from the game for 15 months after failing a drug test and being convicted for the use of cocaine and being sent home from the 1994 World cup ( which was held in the U.S) after getting caught taking drugs.

Even after his retirement, Maradona kept using drugs but began to face critical health and weight issues.

Maradona isn’t the only athlete that had his life tragically ruined my drugs/ alcohol. But also we should never blame the drugs, it’s a matter of choice. People say that they JUST want to try it and then get hooked on to it. So why even bother trying in the first place? Maradona had millions of fans, most of which can be effected by his slightest judgment error. When kids and teens see “heroes” that take drugs and make stupid mistakes over and over again, they will think that it is fine to do that stuff.

Considering, Maradona’s terrible childhood, people began brushing off his actions, but they do not know the effect that every single person has on our planet, especially people who are displayed on worldwide televisions and newspapers. Its like showing the world: DRUGS. IF MARADONA, THEN IT MUST BE THE RIGHT THING TO DO, DIE.

Media is also presenting and representing everything terribly, they are attracted to the negativity and ratings, but if they focus on the good role models and all the good environments and atmospheres that surround us then maybe, life would be just a tad better.

By taking the wrong path, Maradona has let his team, fans and a lot of people down.

In the end, even though he had changed soccer history for the better or for worse, he has also opened up many people’s eyes and allowed them to see clearly about silly stuff like drugs.

Women Need Heroes like Mia Hamm

Published by xxsoccerxx under Uncategorized

It has always been a battle for the voices of women to be heard, since the beginning of time. The world today is still facing the issue, even in the most developed of countries, women break their silences and stand up for the rights that they should equally possess as much as any man. But for years women have had amazing breakthroughs to show and stand against some boundaries that life holds up. Sports have always been a problem for women; but gradually the limitations and walls are beginning to get broken down.

One of the most strong-willed, passionate, female soccer-players is Mia Hamm.

On March 17, 1972, Bill and Stephanie gave birth to a baby that would not only change soccer history for both men and women, but give hope to  many helpless young and old women in the world. At the age of fifteen, she joined the U.S women’s National Team, becoming the youngest player to ever join the team and win the World Cup championship. She took one year off to finish her education at the Lake Braddock Secondary School, where she helped them win the state championship.  But education is always a valuable essence in life, so she went on to University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; she led this team to victory and they only lost 1 out of 95 games played.

Mia founded and established the Mia Hamm Foundation that focused on women sport program progress.  The inspiration to the foundation came from her deceased brother, Garrett. In memory of her brother, Mia and her team wore a black armband in a friendly match.

In March 2004, the world’s greatest soccer player, Pele of Brazil, selected Mia Hamm and her teammate Michelle Akers,  for the FIFA 100; a list of 125 greatest living soccer players, they were the only women on that list, this even permanently imprinted in soccer fans’ minds forever.

On May 22 , 2004, after many majestic experiences carrying her country’s flag in the opening ceremony of the Olympics, the indescribable feeling of breaking to World records, one of which categorizes under male and female attainable records, Mia Hamm finally retired. She settled down to start a family, though her first marriage wasn’t successful. She took another try at settling down when she married Boston Red Sox Short Stop, and conceived twin girls, Grace Isabella and Ava Caroline.

Mia Hamm has been an inspiration to many sport minded girls. I don’t think people understand how many women have been tied down from following their dream because of background, family and wealth. People always say how they want peace on this planet, well we can take one step closer to that dream by making men and women happy by allowing to fulfill their dreams and desires, it is going to take hard work, frustration and sometimes failure, don’t think for one second legends like Mia Hamm had a smooth out path for success and happiness. You take control of your magical wand that grants your wishes.

Can You Hear Me?- The Soccer Remix

Published by xxsoccerxx under Uncategorized

The soccer and music community always seemed to clash a bit, but who thought that these to worlds could smoothly fit together?

Recently, I went to an insane concert preformed by an amazing artist, Enrique Iglesias. The concert was so alive, as was the dedicated singer who put a massive amount of energy into his performance. One of the many things I enjoyed that night was the fact that the songs that were performed sounded identical to the CD’s, and yes I am sure it was live. It seems this is what is missing from music today, pureness. As the concert persisted, a song played that connected to a soccer event, EuroCup 2008, I immediately, went to search for the lyrics. Here I have transformed the song Can You Hear Me by Enrique Iglesias into my own soccer definition of the song.

Can You Hear Me- Soccer Remix

I’m numb but I can still feel you

Sometimes I’m blind but I see you

You are here but so far away

When playing soccer, you senses become so aware of the surrounding that it feels anaesthetized. You need to be alert of how your spacing, where to run through to the ball, and lets not forget about precious time, but at the same time when having possession of the ball your instincts invade your mind and body, you become physically faster and stronger, you put everything into play, that if feels numb and surreal.

The times that you are not missing

You make me feel like I’m spinning

Sometimes you get what you gave

One important quality to get a soccer player far is teamwork and sportsmanship. There is no I in team, therefore the team rises and falls together. In order to gain respect you need to give it. A team that has players and coaches that do not respect each other is a losing team; it will be full of chaos and unorganized game plans. A team that doesn’t in script value into what they do, will never get fans. Fans, are people who look up to someone or something, it becomes a role model. Being part of a team is big, to the player and the environment around them.

I am on a course of Collision

I’m not about to give in

Can explain my position

Or the condition I’m in

When playing this sport, you will always have ups and downs. It’s a rocky road to success. Sometimes the game can only depend on luck. It can get frustrating,  confusing. Many times you feel like you were placed in the middle of the world maples and must find a way back home. Yes, it can be very tough but if you really are willing and passionate about it, you can get through!

Where I am there’s no limit

No walls, no ceiling

No intermission

So let the party begin

Hey! Hey! All the way!

DJ let it play!

Hey! Hey! Can you hear me?

Oh, oh, oh

When playing this sport its all about now. You take it to the max, play to your fullest. There aren’t any limitations getting in your way. So enjoy what you have and make every little detail the best out of it. Soccer is a sport that is shared around the world and enjoyed buy million for its power to make one live, laugh and love.

Though you may not share my vision

I gotta make a decision

Do I go? Do I stay?

Sometimes many players have to make difficult and life changing decisions when playing soccer. Not only on the field but also off the field. For example, changing what club or team that you want to represent. On the field, millions of people are watching so you must make the smart and healthy choice, that wont be leading to many regrets. But then again, it is always good to make mistakes and learn from them, just not too many mistakes.

You’ve gotten into my system

Your in control of  my mental

I’m in a euphoric state, yeah!

Like I have said before, soccer is away of life. It helps one to ease up from all the pain and negative issues of the real world that keep on escalating. Once you become attached to the sport it is a way of healing and I can easily become part of you. That is why its so famous and big.

(Chorus 4x)

Impossible Is Nothing.

Published by xxsoccerxx under Uncategorized

Today, our world feels like it is covered by one, massive, grey cloud. Blinding us from inner beauty, shielding us from love and care towards one another. Right now, it feels as if it’s a time of fear and discrimination. But when people come together to play soccer, everything is forgotten. It becomes about the sport, about the bending and curving of the ball, about teamwork and cooperation. In this commercial everyone comes together, forgetting the political problems that are clashing each other, forgetting the issues that keep on escalating back home, all of this disappears. This commercial represents unity. People from different ages and backgrounds coming together to enjoy something that they love to participate and spend there time doing. I think that this commercial shows how much soccer can really bring people together. And it’s not just the players but it is the fans and referees and everyone who is involved but EVERYONE. I really like how Adidas incorporated this message into their commercial, and at the same time showed off their famous label and clothing to the world.

ADIDAS HISTORY:

After World War I, Adolf Dassler started to create his own original shoes, Herzogenaurach, Bavaria`. In 1924, his brother, Rudolf, joined and expanded the business and soon it became a major company known as The Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory. Its expansion expanded even more when they sponsored the Olympics, 1928. During World War II, they shifted their production to weapons and tanks for the army. In 1948, they brothers split up and formed different businesses and organizations. Rudolf established the Puma Company and Adolf established Adidas. Many people believe that the name mean all day I dream about soccer but it actually came to be by blending his first and last name together (Adi for Adolf and Das for Dassler).

Today, Adidas has become a worldwide known corporation and will probably go down along within soccer history.

Who said that nobody can bend it like Beckham? The way that this magician curves glides and scores his way to victory leaves the rest of the word in awe. On February fifth,1985 a legend was born that would go down into soccer history.

Maria Dolores dos Santos and Jose Dinis Aveiro welcomed their son into the world!

It seems that Ronaldo was destined to become an epic soccer player, since the age of eight he had played in an official time. He also became the only player to ever play for Sporting’s U-16, U-17, U-18,B-Team and first team all in one season! He quickly became known for his talent and passion towards the sport.

At the age of fifteen, Ronaldo was diagnosed with a severe racing heart, his condition could severely scar Ronaldo and he might have to give up his soccer obsession. Fortunately, the surgery he had was successful and he was able to train a few weeks later.

Major and famous leagues had kept an eye on him, for example, Liverpool, had spotted him but then decided that he was not  yet physically and skillfully mature for the real game. But Manchester United (another major team) had decided to observe him more closely and see his inner potential and what they can make out of him. They attended one of his games and were very impressed, immediately they signed him on.

Ronaldo became the first Portuguese player to sign on to the team. Being new in this type of world, he didn’t want to pressure himself into living up expectations and judgments related to jersey number seven. This jersey was worn by the most notable and recognized player such as David Beckham, Bryan Robson and George Best. He requested jersey number 28.

After I joined, the manager asked me what number I’d like. I said 28. But Ferguson said ‘No, you’re going to have No. 7,’ and the famous shirt was an extra source of motivation. I was forced to live up to such an honor.”   – Cristiano Ronaldo

Ronaldo’s first goal that wowed the viewers of Manchester United was a perfectly curved free kick, November 1, 2003.

Since then, Ronaldo has scored over hundreds inerasable goals that will permanently imprint in Premiere League history.

Wither you like him or not, there is no doubt in anyone’s mind that Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the world’s best players, that will and forever will be remembered. He is also, my personal favorite soccer player.

Everyone has their own escape from the world. A place that they transform from who they truly are to who they want to be. They become what they want themselves to become. And what better place to do experience all this than the loud and exciting moments of soccer. Crowds roaring, the smell of the freshly cut grass, the glamorous soccer players with their epic skills. Maybe, that is not exactly what experience

In my own little world. I hope by reading and discovering this blog, you feel this about something too! And it doesn’t have to be about soccer, it can be anything that you feel completely passionate about. I hope this blog can open your eyes!
